The Moon and Planets- May 14, 2002

The moon and Venus appear less than one degree apart in the evening twilight sky on May 14, 2002, with four of the other planets nearby (mouse over image for labels). Note, you can't see it but Mercury is positioned near the top of the treeline to the lower right of Saturn, diving rapidly back towards the sun in it's orbit.  As an added element of mystery for those of you who are not familiar with long exposure photography, the yellow and red streaks on the left are actually the headlights and tail-lights of a car passing by on the road near the lake, which I didn't even realize was there until after I got the film back from the lab.
